The Project Management Institute(PMI) stands as a global leader in the field of project management. It is well known that PMI certification involves a rigorous, examination-based process that represents the highest caliber in professional standards. PMI is actively involved in the pursuit of Education and Knowledge Acquisition, Professional Development and Networking, Career Advancement and Professional Standards, Products and Services in the field of project management.

Founded in 1969, PMI® is the world's leading not-for-profit project management professional association, with over 125,000 members in more than 140 countries. PMI® provides global leadership in the development of professional standards, certifications, research, publications, education and training in the project management field.

To be considered for PMI certification, candidates must first meet specific education and experience requirements and agree to meet PMI's strict code of professional ethics. The final step to receiving PMI certification is to pass a multiple-choice, 200-question examination designed to measure project management knowledge. PMI certification exam questions are created by other professionals who already have achieved PMI certification. Those who receive PMI certification must continue to demonstrate ongoing project management expertise by completing continuing education requirements that supplement PMI certification.

Types of PMI Certifications:
PMI has identified the following two Project management certifications:

• Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM): The CAPM is intended for those practitioners who provide project management services but are relatively new to the profession. Obtaining your CAPM can go a long way toward enhancing your employment and/or project assignment responsibilities - and getting you recognized in the workplace!
  
• Project Management Professional (PMP): The PMP designation following your name tells current and potential employers that you have a solid foundation of project management knowledge that can be readily applied in the workplace.
